1 lifting solution for plates and pipes

Coated and uncoated pipes of different dimensions and even plates! For one project we designed a lifting solution for these products. The design consists of two lifting devices which are able to rotate infinitely and can be combined with three different components: a suction pad bar to handle plates; several suction pads to handle pipes; and a spreader bar to handle pipes. The complete lifting solution The suction pad bar is specially designed to handle plates. To handle pipes of different diameters we designed several suction pads with different dimensions. Specially for coated pipes, which are no longer airtight or…

Handling pipes in a vessel’s cargo hold

Several weeks ago, we shared via LinkedIn an informative movie with the plans of McDermott to convert the Amazon to an ultra-deepwater J-Lay vessel. For this vessel we designed a vacuum solution, which will be installed on 4 cargo hold cranes, to limit deflection of double joint pipes or even handle the entire pipe by vacuum only. Vacuum system to limit deflection Normally the small diameter pipes are handled by fingers on both outer ends. In this specific situation the customer demanded the possibility to handle both single joints and double joints. Due to the length of the small diameter…

It does not have to be big to be a perfect design

Through the easy, but innovative design the 5 suction pads can be evenly adjusted, so the distance between the centre of the suctions pads remains the same. Enabling the possibility to bring the concrete elements together after demoulding. The vacuum lifter is able to lift up to five concrete elements at once, but is also able to handle for example two bigger or one big element. In short: a small, but flexible design!

New: Integrated overload protection system

Safety first! Safety is the most important issue in material handling. To increase safety, all possible failures have to be eliminated. This includes operator mistakes. We developed a new suction pad suspension which has an integrated safety release system and an overload protection system in ONE! Overload protection system The safety release system disables releasing during transport of the load. Releasing is only possible when the load is lowered to the ground or otherwise supported. The overload protection system offers an extra safety provision. If the load exceeds the maximum lifting capacity of one of the suction pads, the vacuum lifter…

Vacuum lifter as part of the TBM

Aerolift developed a vacuum handling solution for inside the tunnel boring machine (TBM). The solution consists of two vacuum lifters per TBM. Both vacuum lifters are able to handle both tunnel segments and keystones. In total we shipped 12 vacuum lifters to China for 6 TBM’s. The TBM’s are meant for a metro tunnel project in Tel Aviv, Israel. Vacuum technology inside the TBM The first vacuum lifter picks up the tunnel segments from transport and brings the segments to the erector. During handling the segments are rotated 90 degrees to meet the erector’s position. This rotating function is integrated…

Onsite adjustments in France

We delivered a vacuum lifter to Epsys in France. After delivery the customer asked if we could add an extra safety signal. All the vacuum lifters of Aerolift are by default provided with visible and audible safety signals. The vacuum level in the vacuum tank is continuously measured. If the vacuum level drops below the 80%, the visible and the audible signals go off. Customised onsite solution Epsys asked if we could add a visible signal which shows if the vacuum level under the suction pads is above 80%. The vacuum lifter of Epsys has two suction pads. Both suction pads are provided…
